Attempted murder: accused named

The man accused of attempting to murder an 18 year-old in an Ardrossan street has been named as Jason Gilmour.

Appearing at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court yesterday (June 13), Gilmour, 22, made no plea or declaration to one count of assault to severe injury, danger of life and trying to kill, and one count of assault to injury.  He was remanded in custody pending further investigations by Strathclyde Police.

The victim of the assault, which took place on Monday evening (June 11), has not been named and remains in a critical condition in Glasgow’s Southern General Hospital, where he is being treated for severe head injuries.

Emergency services were called to Hill Street in Ardrossan around 8.30pm on Monday, where they found a male lying the street.  One local resident told the3towns a fight had broken out between two men who were part of a group from the controversial homeless hostel in nearby Princes Street.  The incident occurred in Hill Street between its junctions with Princes Street and Princes Place.
