North Ayrshire Council is promising a “fun-packed day of family events” for this Wednesday (August 7), which is National Play Day 2013.
A range of activities for children of all ages are planned for local libraries and other venues across the district, including a family play event at Eglinton Country Park in Kilwinning, creative play and drama sessions, circus workshops and a step-back-in-time Victorian games day. All activities are free, however the Council advises that advance booking is essential.
National Play Day champions a child’s right to relax and play, and to join-in a wide range of cultural, artistic and other recreational activities, all of which are enshrined in law under Article 31 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
North Ayrshire Council’s SNP Cabinet Member for Community and Culture, Cllr Alan Hill, said, “Play is an essential part of every child's life. Not only is it vital for the enjoyment of childhood, but it also contributes to their social, emotional, intellectual and physical development.
“With a whole host of fun events taking place across North Ayrshire, there really is something for everyone to take part in, and I would encourage the whole family to get involved and book their place now.”
