North Ayrshire Provost Joan Sturgeon is recovering after a fall last Thursday (August 1).
The SNP councillor for Irvine East broke her right wrist.
The injury meant Mrs Sturgeon had to miss the funeral of SNP stalwart Alison Hunter, which was held in Glasgow on the same day. Nicola Sturgeon, Scotland’s Deputy First Minister and Provost Sturgeon’s daughter, spoke on behalf of the SNP at the funeral service. Alison Hunter had for many years been the SNP’s National Organiser and played a significant role in building the party in the two North Ayrshire constituencies of Cunninghame North and Cunninghame South, both of which are now represented by SNP MSPs.
Joan Sturgeon took to social media site Twitter – Tweeting left-handed – to express her disappointment at missing Mrs Hunter’s funeral.
In another late-night Tweet – posted shortly after one-o’clock on Friday morning (August 2) – provost Sturgeon said, “Pain keeping me awake so looks like Twitter for company”.
However, Mrs Sturgeon showed she had not lost her sense of humour, saying in another Tweet, “Hubby having to do the cooking...so my wrist might be the least of my worries.”
