Local success at Cream of Ayrshire Awards

Joshua Davidson from Ardrossan, and Saltcoats man Kevin Paterson triumphed at the 2013 Cream of Ayrshire Awards sponsored by West Sound Radio.

Joshua received the ‘Up and Coming Youngster’ award, while Kevin was announced as Ayrshire’s ‘Unsung Hero’ for his work with the Coastguard service based at Ardrossan.

North Ayrshire was also successful in the ‘Toast of Ayrshire’ award, which went to Irvine’s Marymass Festival, and the ‘Best Workplace’ award, won by Thistle Help of Irvine.

North Ayrshire Provost Joan Sturgeon, who attended the award ceremony at the prestigious Brig o’ Doon Hotel in Alloway last Thursday (October 3), said, “Once again the Cream of Ayrshire Awards showed the great efforts communities across North Ayrshire put in each and every day of the year.

“The awards also show just how diverse these efforts are - ranging from the organisation of one of Scotland’s biggest community festivals to the life-saving work of coastguard volunteers.

“I am especially proud that the Unsung Hero award was sponsored by North Ayrshire Council, along with South and East Ayrshire.  We should never take the value of the volunteers for granted.  Every day there are many local people who go above and beyond the call of duty to help others and their communities.

“They don't do it for the plaudits or the praise. This is exactly why we should recognise them and the incredible work they put in.”
