North Ayrshire Council is encouraging residents of the Three Towns to celebrate Older People’s Day on Tuesday (October 1), in recognition of the achievements and contributions they make to our society and economy.
The Magnum Leisure Centre in Irvine will host a range of activities, workshops and demonstrations between 1:00pm and 4:00pm on Tuesday, in addition to providing information and advice for older people and their carers.
Cllr Anthea Dickson, North Ayrshire’s SNP Cabinet member for Health and Social Care, said, “People are living longer, so keeping active and healthy as we get older is vital. The activities offered on Older People’s Day assist in maintaining independence, they expand social circles and they provide a chance for people to learn new skills.
“I think this is an excellent opportunity for us to come together and recognise the contribution older people make to our society, whether it is through employment, volunteering or caring for loved ones.”
