The integration of health and care services in North Ayrshire took a significant step forward last week with the appointment of Ms Iona Colvin as Director of Health and Social Care for the North Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership, which will assume responsibility for services in 2015.
Ms Colvin currently heads North Ayrshire Council’s Social Services & Health directorate. Her appointment to the new organisation was welcomed by the Chief Executives of North Ayrshire Council and NHS Ayrshire & Arran.
Cllr Willie Gibson, Leader of North Ayrshire Council and Chair of North Ayrshire Community Health Partnership, said, “This is a challenging time for the delivery of health services and the care provided to our communities, as we face increasing demands and constrained resources. The creation of the new integrated partnership will avoid duplication and will result in real improvements for local people.”
Cllr Gibson noted that Iona Colvin has “performed admirably in her current position,” adding, “I am confident she will drive forward our ambitious plans for integration with the Health Service.”
Dr Martin Cheyne, Chairman of Ayrshire and Arran NHS Board, congratulated Ms Colvin on her appointment, saying, “We look forward to working with Iona and her team on the integration of health and social care. This is a challenging, yet exciting time for both NHS Ayrshire & Arran and North Ayrshire Council, but in working together we can achieve the healthiest life possible for everyone in Ayrshire and Arran.”
Iona Colvin will take up her new post on December 1st.
