The rest of the world has finally realised what residents of the Three Towns have known for years...the Kandy Bar’s pies are the best.
The Saltcoats bakers are now the official Scotch Pie World Champions after emerging triumphant from the annual competition to find the best pie on the planet. In its 15th year, the World Scotch Pie Championships were held last week in Dunfermline and saw 100 bakers compete for the title.
A delighted Stephen McAllister, proprietor of the Kandy Bar, said, “To have been given the ultimate accolade and to be able to call our pie the world champion, as judged by a panel of experts, is just fantastic. This award is proof that the Kandy Bar team are the best in the land.”
The World Championship, supported by Scottish Bakers and the Scottish Federation of Meat Traders, looks to encourage the highest standards within the industry by rewarding excellence. The event is run by Scotch Pie Club.
In addition to taking the top accolade, the Kandy Bar also received a silver award for its large apple tart, and three bronze awards: sausage roll; meat, bean and potato pie; and macaroni pie.
