A local businessman has applied for a licence to operate the Metro nightclub in Saltcoats.
The club, located on a prime site in Hamilton Street, part of the town centre, has been closed since 2010. However, the January meeting of North Ayrshire Licensing Board will hear an application for a licence submitted by Mr Jagir Singh, whose family runs two shops in Saltcoats, including the Keystore just a few doors along from the Metro.
In March 2009, while the Metro was still operating, the3towns revealed the club’s owners had put it up for sale, with an asking price of £750,000. Initially, property agents DM Hall marketed the building – formerly the Regal Cinema – as an opportunity for residential or retail development.
The Licensing Board meeting in January will also hear an application from Rosemount Taverns Limited relating to the Castlehill Vaults in Ardrossan’s Princes Place.
The company is seeking to amend the layout of the premises to form a kitchen, with relocation and reconfiguration of bar counters in the lounge and public bar. In addition, the pub’s owners are looking for permission to serve bar meals and to allow children and young people to be admitted when accompanied by an adult until 8:00pm.
The last date for the Licensing Board to receive objections or representations in relation to both applications is January 10th 2014.
