One of Ardrossan’s most prominent historic buildings is for sale.
agents Lambert Smith Hampton are seeking offers for Seafield School,
which sits in 8-acres of land off Eglinton Road, between Seafield Court
and Witches Linn.
the3towns recently revealed that social care
charity Quarriers had confirmed the closure of the school, alongside two
other facilities in North Ayrshire - Merton House in Largs and
Williamfield in Irvine – with the loss of 69 jobs.
At the time,
Quarriers said Seafield was no longer “financially viable” and that the
facilities in Largs and Irvine largely provided support to children on
placements at the Ardrossan school.
According to Lambert Smith
Hampton, the property being offered for sale includes the main building,
which dates from 1820 and is Grade B Listed with a gross floor area of
1,466 sq m (15,774 sq ft).
In addition, the agents state, “There
have been a number of single and two-storey extensions made to the
original building. The approximate area of all buildings on site
comprises 3,650 sq m (39,275 sq ft). The site is currently allocated
within the North Ayrshire Local Plan for Housing. The main school
building, together with former stables, boundary walls and railings are
all Category B Listed. Informally, North Ayrshire Council have advised
that they will consider a range of uses for the buildings and on the
wider site. However, they have a policy that seeks to safeguard the
retention of the Listed Buildings.”
