LGBT support in North Ayrshire

A group aimed at making positive changes to the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) residents of North Ayrshire will recommence meetings on Tuesday (September 9th).

‘Open Ayrshire’, which is run by North Ayrshire Council’s Youth Services department, is for  young people aged 12 to 25 who identify themselves as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.

A Council spokesperson said, “People can come along and help shape the group, its content and tackle the day-to-day issues faced by members.

“The weekly ‘get-togethers’ offer local LGBT people a great opportunity to meet others in a similar situation, in a setting free from discrimination.

“As well as having lots of fun and lively discussions, Council staff will be on hand at each session to offer support on a variety of issues.”

Anyone interested in ‘Open Ayrshire’ can find out more about the group and how to get involved by contacting Donna Anderson of the Council’s Youth Services on 01294 324477 or e-mailing:

The group is confidential and seeks to help LGBT young people enjoy a safe, supportive life and reach their full potential.
